We arrived here at our new FREE, boondocking spot west of Yuma on a patch of BLM land off American Girl Mine Rd last Friday. Since then I’ve been trying to think of something to write a blog post about. So far I’ve come up with…nothing. That’s right nothing has happened in the last four days worthy of a blog post. Man are we boring.
I suppose I could tell you how I spent almost all day Saturday driving around Yuma doing fun and exciting errands including laundry, grocery shopping and seeking out the one store for miles that carried Phineas’s special brand of dog food. I have no pictures to show you from this oh so thrilling day, because first of all Yuma is less then picture worthy (translation: an ugly town filled with box stores, fast food joints, and highway adjacent RV parks). And second of all I was by myself, trying to navigate a place I’ve never been before which does not lend itself to well to photo documenting. Especially when I am driving in circles trying to find the store that Goggle tells me is only one tenth of a mile from the laundromat. I figure, well that’s so close I don’t need to even plug it into the GPS. Except that I went a tenth of a mile in the wrong direction. When I can’t find the store I decide to ask Siri (on my phone). She’s usually very helpful in these situations. Except that the name of the store is Paws & Tails and no matter how many times I try to pronounce it for her, she has no idea what I am saying. I wish I could remember now some of the things she thought I was looking for. None of them were even close to Paws & Tails. Oh, technology. Finally I resort to the old fashioned method of pulling over and typing the store name into my phone. Oh, it’s in the other direction! See what I mean- exciting stuff going on around here.
I could also tell you how after spending three weeks in Anza-Borrego with no over the air TV, out here we get tons of channels. At least half of them are in Spanish, but since we are only 15 miles or so from Mexico that’s to be expected. Over the air TV means that Tim got to spend most of the day on Sunday watching football. The last few weeks he has been trying, with somewhat unsatisfying results, to stream the games over the Internet on his computer. By the look of contentment on his face Sunday, I think he was happy to watch on the real TV this week.
Also on Sunday, we were excited to be joined once again by Brian and Leigh. Either we’re following them, or their following us because we can’t seem to get away from each other! Just kidding, we love the company and after two whole days apart we had a great time catching up.
We also got to chat with Nina and Paul who we met for the first time in San Diego. This is their second visit to American Girl Mine Rd and after reading the review Nina wrote about it last year we knew it would be the kind of place we enjoyed. They’re leaving soon to head up to Quatzsite, but it was nice to see them again, even if it was just a short visit.
Despite our boring existence in the last few days we do have a few fun things planned for the week, including a short trip to Mexico and a hike in the nearby dunes (provided we don’t get run over by some over zealous OHV rider). We also have more company arriving. Kris and Cassie who we last saw way back in the beginning of December at Lake Mead are due to arrive today. This means that hopefully the next blog post will contain far more exciting things than stories about my trouble following directions and our re-discovery of TV.

You’re not boring! You provide way more information than I do…over-the-air TV that’s big news! (plus great pics as always)
PS: We’re following you, you guys seem to get places first!
We loved American Girl Mine Road. How about the air traffic? Have the jets buzzed you yet? That’s always good for a thrill!
Yes! A few jets and tons of low flying helicopters. So low we thought they might land on top of us!!!
