Deception Pass State Park

Deception Pass State Park

Puget Sound

After 89 days and 7,225 miles we have reached the Pacific Ocean! It’s been a long and incredible journey across the country. We’re very excited for “leg 2” of the journey to begin as we spend the next few months traveling down the coast exploring Washington, Oregon and California. This week we’re staying at Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island a bit northwest of Seattle.

Our lovely site

After 3 weeks of dry camping we were excited to find a spot with an electric and water hook up. No sewer hook up so we still need to watch our tank levels, but since we’re only staying 4 nights that won’t be a problem. It feels so luxurious to use as much electricity as we want. This morning I even made cookies with my electric mixer! The campground is  pretty big with three separate camping areas and a total of 310 sites. The sites are spaced out with lots of trees for privacy though so you don’t feel like you’re in a large campground.

Huge trees in this campground!

Our site has a slight view of Cranberry Lake through the trees. It seems like a nice lake, but swimming is closed due to some sort of goose derived bacteria (yes, I said goose) so we stayed away. Who needs a lake though when the ocean is an easy 1/2 mile walk away? Yesterday afternoon we strolled down to the shore and walked part of the Pacific Northwest Trail. Here are a few pictures from the walk:

Today the sun is shinning and the temperature is a perfect 62 degrees. This afternoon we’re off to explore the other side of the trail to check out the dunes.
