Last Day at Keuka Lake

written by Amanda June 22, 2012

Phin enjoying the lake

We went down to the lake after dinner last night and Phineas enjoyed a last swim. Today we will move over to Sampson State Park , which is about an hour away on the shores of Seneca Lake. Originally we were planning on heading down into Western PA today, but decided to stick around this area for the weekend. We wanted to visit Wagner Vineyards and Brewery (one of the few places around here that makes both wine & beer) but since it’s quite far from Keuka Lake and only 20 minutes from Sampson State Park, it made sense to move. We’re still a bit nervous about leaving Phineas in the airstream by himself so we’ve been trying to only go on short trips without him. Yesterday we left him for about 45 minutes while we went to the grocery store. He was chilling in the AC and when we returned hadn’t moved from his bed. Still makes me nervous though.

Keuka Lake sunset

It was pretty hazy and humid on the lake last night. You couldn’t even see the houses on the other side because the air was so thick. A few boats were out, but for the most part the lake is like the campground- quiet. After almost a week of solitude on this peaceful lake Sampson State Park is likely to be a shock for us. 300 campsites and a large marina could make for a noisy weekend. We’ll see if we last two nights…

What was the water like? Was it clear to the bottom? Did you take a swim, or just Phineas?

It was pretty clean looking with nice flat pebbles for a shoreline. Just Phin went swimming though. I went in up past the knees. He got to go in Seneca Lake today. 3 lakes in the past week.. Lucky dog.
